Luggage 101: A Guide to Choosing the Perfect Luggage

27/11/24

After the eventful Nightbus episode on I’m A Celebrity, it got us thinking about the wide range of luggage options available today and how to figure out which one is the right choice.

Having the right bag can truly enhance your travel experience, whether you're exploring a new city, visiting friends, or traveling for work.  The right luggage can help you stay organised, making it easier to focus on the adventure ahead.

Here’s a breakdown of the various types of luggage to consider for your next trip.

Hard-Shell Luggage

Ideal for wet weather, hard-shell luggage is made from materials like ABS (affordable but less durable) or polycarbonate (lightweight and very sturdy). Usually in the form of a suitcase, they can be bought with 2-4 wheels so you can move them around easily.

Soft-Shell Luggage

Typically made from polyester or nylon, these bags often include more compartments, making them great for those who tend to overpack. They are generally more affordable than hard-shell options.

Rolling Luggage

The most frequently spotted suitcase at airports, rolling luggage is incredibly easy to manoeuvre. Many options come with 4 wheels, allowing for smoother movements in multiple directions.

Duffle Bags

Duffle bags are perfect for short trips and often feature multiple compartments. Many come with wheels and shoulder straps for added convenience.

Backpacks

The most versatile option, backpacks are great for both short city breaks and longer journeys. They come in many sizes and price points, making them accessible for various needs.

Travel Tote Bag

These bags are stylish cabin bags, perfect for storing essentials like chargers, travel documents and other personal items. They work well for weekend trips or as an additional bag alongside checked luggage.

With this guide, you should feel more confident in choosing the right luggage for your next adventure. Safe travels!
