As this season of I’m a Celebrity comes to an end, the much-anticipated Cyclone Challenge is just around the corner! In this final survival test, the remaining contestants will battle it out to win stars for their camp.
The Cyclone Challenge is legendary and it’s usually the one trial the celebs genuinely look forward to. Dressed as superheroes, the contestants must climb a slippery waterslide, braving blasts of wind, water, and slime, all while dodging gym balls. They have just 10 minutes to grab the giant stars and place them on target markers.
To celebrate one of the season’s most thrilling trials, let’s take a look back at some of the best Celebrity Cyclones over the years!
In 2022, with 169,000 views on YouTube, the Cyclone Challenge was wilder than ever. Four superheroes dressed in capes and spandex faced the trial: Matt Hancock, Jill Scott, Owen Warner, and Mike Tindall. Matt went first and dove right in, while Owen took a slower strategy which didn’t quite pay off. With just 10 minutes to gather all four stars and keep them on the markers, the celebs pulled through and earned a meal for each of them. They later mentioned that it was the funniest experience of their lives!
2020’s Cyclone Challenge has racked up 230,000 views on YouTube. The trial returned with a chilly twist. Due to COVID restrictions, the show took place at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, Wales, instead of the usual sunny setting in Australia’s New South Wales.
The colder environment made the trial even more intense than ever. Though the rules stayed the same, extra challenges ramped up the excitement. Shane Richie, Giovanna Fletcher, Vernon Kay, and Jordan North were all repeatedly washed back to the starting line but managed to finish with just 30 seconds to spare!
In 2019, the iconic Cyclone Challenge starred Jacqueline Jossa, Andy Whyment, Roman Kemp, and Kate Garraway in superhero-style lycra outfits. The celebs took on the slippery hill while the production team took control of the wind machines and obstacles.
Jacqueline slipped early and had to start over, Roman powered ahead, but Andy was blasted by a wave of red water that also sent Jacqueline back to the start. With under five seconds remaining, the team pulled together and managed to collect all their stars just in time!
With 341,000 views on YouTube, the Cyclone Challenge in 2018 is one to remember. Harry Redknapp, Emily Atack, and Fleur East took on the slippery platform, while John Barrowman was on the side unscrewing stars and tossing them into the course. As water cannons blasted the contestants, John was in hysterics, especially when Harry kicked things off with, “I want to have a wee!” Despite the chaos, they managed to secure all the stars for camp.
The Cyclone Challenge in 2015 was a wild trial and has an impressive 637,000 views on YouTube. The five contestants included Jorgie Porter, Vicky Pattison, Kieron Dyer, George Shelley, and Ferne McCann. Jorgie went first, securing her star on the marker. Meanwhile, Vicky and Ferne were knocked down by gym balls, with Ferne losing all her stars and needing to restart, as did Kieron. In the end, the team rallied and collected all five stars, earning five well-deserved meals for camp!
