Top Tips to Free Up Your Phone Storage

Top Tips to Free Up Your Phone Storage

If you’re anything like the tombola bingo team, your mobile phone will never be far away! With new apps and updates being released every day it can easily lead to posing a problem where the phone finally says ‘no’!  Your trusty phone says enough is enough as you no longer have available storage for that latest cool new app or funny picture. If that’s the case, it’s time to create some space, but where do you begin?

Here is your step-by-step guide to giving your phone a clean-up, to help free up some space and make sure that you’re using your device to its full potential.

  1. Delete your least favourite apps

Okay, so when you first got the Magic 8-Ball app, you intended to ask some of life’s most pressing questions. In reality, however, you have barely glanced at it since.

If this sounds familiar, go to Settings > General > Usage to find out which apps are taking up the most space. If a forgotten or unwanted app is hogging space, delete it.

Note that even if these are paid-for apps, Apple and Android link any previously downloaded apps to your account. This means that if you change your mind at a later date, you can retrieve them without having to pay a second time.

  1. Remove hidden data and programs

Sometimes you will find data or programmes downloaded within an app, so while the app itself isn’t taking up that much room, it may well be storing some useless information, such as downloaded programmes that you’ve already watched. If you think that’s the case, go into the apps themselves and delete any downloads associated with the app by going into the ‘downloads’ section from your menu. You may be surprised by how much space can be freed up in this way.

  1. Edit your photos and videos

Video files tend to be on the extremely large side, and are often guilty of hogging a whole load of storage space without you realising it. Take a look through your albums and delete all those blurry shots and accidental videos. You can also upload your photos and videos onto a different device, such as a laptop. Find a way to remove them from your phone, while regaining storage space.

  1. Do you need all that music?

The answer is, probably not. By downloading an app like Spotify or SoundCloud, you can simply search for the music you’re after and create playlists of your favourite tracks. Another option is to sign up for iTunes Match, which links itself to your iCloud, allowing you to download any of your iTunes music at your leisure. It may cost £21.99 per year, but means you can access all of your favourites without having to compromise on valuable storage space.

  1. The small stuff

They say that you shouldn’t sweat the small stuff, and they’re probably right, but when it comes to phone storage, every little bit and bob will build up and clog up your phone with useless data. Take a look at things like your browser history, contacts and notes and get rid of anything you don’t need. Think of it as similar to clearing out your wardrobe: you need to be brutal. If you haven’t used it in the past six months, then you are unlikely to miss it.

Now your phone is cleaned up, it should be faster, more responsive and – most importantly – ready for more apps… Talking of which, you can download the tombola mobile bingo app for iOS or Android if you don’t have it already!
