Top Netflix Picks for a Cosy Night In

It’s fair to say that Netflix has taken the nation by storm, and is the main offender in many a late night TV binge! In fact, three million British households now subscribe to the streaming service! But what do you do when your favourite series has run its course? Find a new one, of course! We spoke to some of our favourite bloggers about what they can’t stop watching.

Frankie & Grace

The Bakes, Books and My Boys blog’s Lucinda Barton recommended this life-affirming comedy drama:

“Aside from the great films on Netflix, we’re currently indulging in Frankie & Grace. Released exclusively for Netflix, it’s a comedy drama about two women who have never gotten on, despite their husbands being partners at a law firm. Living their lives in empty-nested comfort, their worlds come crashing down when they discover that their husbands have been in love with each other for the past 20 years, and now plan to get married! It’s fun, while still relaying a few serious messages. It also has some amazing stars in it – Jane Fonda and Martin Sheen, for a start. Great for watching in the evening when you don’t want anything too heavy.”

Breaking Bad

Lisa Prideaux from GLAMBEAUTYS was full of praise for this cult success:

“My favourite series has to be Breaking Bad – it was the first series my husband and I got hooked on. It’s amazing and we had to watch at least two episodes a night until we had finished it, because each season just kept getting better and better! Drama, action, comedy, thrills, and so much more. We were so sad when it ended, but then moved onto Better Call Saul, which is a spin-off series of Breaking Bad. Both are great and I’d highly recommend them!”

Nature-loving India, from the Touch Screens and Beauty Queens blog, is a big fan of the Attenborough documentaries:

“My other favourite is not so much a single programme, but Netflix has just about every David Attenborough documentary there is. They’re a life saver when there isn’t much on TV, or if you just want to relax and be dazzled by some of the incredible things that go on in the natural world. My favourites are the sea-related documentaries, because it all seems so mystical and other-wordly, but the ‘Life’ series has some amazing insights into the lives of different animals around the world.”

House of Cards

Jacinta Zechariah from Jacintaz Three thinks House of Cards is a must-see:

“My favourite show is House of Cards; I love the intrigue created and the clever ways in which everything unravels. It shows how people in high positions can misuse their power and it provides an interesting insight into politics, both in the political and personal world.”

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Sarah Arrow, the business mogul behind Birds on the Blog, went for something a bit more uplifting with her choice:

“One of my favourites has to be the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Kimmy is just so overwhelmingly positive! Life gives her lemons by the truckload, and not only does she make lemonade, but she has fun doing it! The characters are just plain crazy, and it’s such good, positive fun. John Hamm as the reverend is just inspired casting and the court scenes had me howling with laughter! Netflix is investing in some incredible original material, and I hope they continue to do so.”

For Ally Curran from Messed up Mum, it’s action and adventure all the way:

“One of my favourite programmes on Netflix is Daredevil – I love anything from Marvel, and I have done since I was a kid. I love the idea of superheroes; hot guys fighting for our protection against the baddies… What’s not to like? That said, I’m currently deciding between Orange Is the New Black and House Of Cards for my next obsession!”

Arrested Development

If you’d rather something that tickles your funny bone, Lisa Bollins from the Lisahh Jane blog has the perfect solution:

“My favourite series on Netflix is Arrested Development – I find it hilarious! I really like how the story line is just crazy, but keeps bringing up things that have happened previously to remind you of past episodes. There are so many funny moments in this show, it’s just something I can watch on Netflix over and over again!”

We hope this has offered some inspiration for what to indulge in over a bowl of popcorn this weekend. Maybe you even have a selection of your own Netflix picks that should have made the list? Let us know!
