“I raised £70,000 to help my son”

We always love to hear amazing inspirational stories from our players so when we heard samiwami1 talking in chat about how she raised £70,000 to take her son, who has cerebral palsy, to the USA for an operation we had to find out more…

She told tombola bingo: “My son Kyle, now almost 4 years old, was born at 34 weeks. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy spastic diplegia at 18 months old and we were told that he would never be able to walk unaided. We were devastated. We researched into the condition and eventually discovered that there was an operation available in a hospital in Missouri that might enable Kyle to walk. But, in order for this to go ahead we needed to raise £60,000 to cover all of the costs, including 3 years of intensive physiotherapy that would follow once we returned to the UK. We started a huge fundraising campaign called “Kyle’s miracle wish” and we immediately started receiving donations. We managed to raise the funds in just 9 months!

Kyle had his operation in May this year and within 2 weeks he was able to walk with walking sticks. And, just recently, he took his first steps completely unaided. He is much more independent now and he is no longer in pain every day. Our next challenge is to try and save up to take Kyle and his big sister to Disneyland Paris as a reward for being such a brave little soldier!”
