Brighton Woman to Star in National TV Campaign

A Brighton grandmother will be enjoying her five minutes of fame on TV this week when she will be seen by more than six million viewers during Emmerdale on ITV1.

Janice Clothier, who became a proud grandmother in October, features as part of the new sponsorship of the show by the UK’s number one online bingo site,

The sponsorship deal will run until the end of January 2011 and includes broadcast sponsorship on ITV1, ITV2 and ITV3, online sponsorship at, interactive sponsorship, mobile interactive bumpers and licensing.

It means Janice, who is originally from Glasgow but now lives in Peacehaven in Brighton, could be seen on Emmerdale for the next 14 months, exposing her to audiences of around six-and-a-half million people across the UK.

In all, more than 100 players took part in filming and each individual will be seen for a few seconds, either at the start of the show or at the start or end of the break of one of ITVs most popular shows.

The idents or ‘break bumpers’ were filmed in November at a London studio after, which is officially the UK’s most popular online bingo site, put an appeal on its website for players to be a part of their sponsorship deal.

Janice, who has three daughters aged 25, 16 and 14, said: I’ve never done anything like this before, but I’ve always fancied being on television.
“I couldn’t quite believe it when they got in touch to say I’d been picked. The day of the shoot itself was great. There were lots of other players there and they’d put on all sorts to keep us entertained while we weren’t in front of cameras. It was an unforgettable day and I really have to thank for letting me a part of it.”

Marketing manager, Dawn Clayton said: “The response from the players was fantastic and they all really went for it in front of camera. Janice was no exception and she did great. Everyone at is really proud of the final results and cannot thank the players enough for their efforts on set.”

More than £3m in cash prizes are won every week on Dawn Clayton added: “Sponsoring Emmerdale, one of ITV’s leading brands, is a significant opportunity for The show’s reach, the affection in which it’s held, and its values of drama, fun and community make it the ideal partner for the tombola brand.”
