Glasgow is Britain’s best value breakfast city
Offering a heady mix of the Full English and traditional Scottish breakfast, it’s Glasgow that tops the list of UK cities for best value.
According to tombola’s study, a Full English or Scottish breakfast can cost as little as £6 in the highest-rated cafes in the city. For this price, you can expect a heaped plate of Scottish extras, including lorne sausage, haggis and tatties.
Glasgow’s breakfast is a staggering £3.65 cheaper than the most expensive breakfast, which can be found in Windsor. You can expect to pay on average £9.65 if you choose to dine in the top-rated Tripadvisor cafes in the town.
Brighton takes second place for the best value city for breakfast, providing a Full English for tourists for a tempting £6.78.
With that price, it’s little surprise that the coastal resort has seen a 78% increase in searches for ‘Brighton holidays’ between May and June 2020, as the UK’s lockdown begins to ease.
London rounds up the top three for cheapest UK cities for a Full English breakfast
Surprisingly, London takes third place for the cheapest UK city for a Full English - despite the capital’s pricy reputation.
tombola studied the price of an English breakfast in London’s best ranked cafes, revealing that the average cost is £7.03. That’s a whole £2.62 cheaper than its neighbour, Windsor. If you are prepared to plan ahead for our morning meals in London, you can make staggering savings on your food.
Bournemouth and Brighton take the crown for best value vegan English breakfasts
tombola studied the price and number of options for vegans in the UK’s most visited towns and cities, with Bournemouth taking the top spot.
Bournemouth offers the highest number of cafes providing full vegan breakfasts. Following a close second is Brighton - the UK’s unofficial Vegan Capital. Both seaside resorts offer plenty of options for vegan breakfasts, costing an average of £7.43 and £6.95 respectively.
Both Bournemouth and Brighton have both seen a large spike in Brits searching for holidays in the areas. In the past month, Bournemouth has seen a 100% increase in searches for ‘Bournemouth holidays’.
Similarly, Brighton has received a 78% rise in ‘Brighton holidays’ - suggesting Brits are looking for good value with their staycations.
Searches for ‘English breakfast recipe’ have increased by 65% during lockdown
It seems Brits have missed the ability to dine out for their Full English. Searches for ‘English breakfast recipe’ increased by 65% during April, May and June 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.
It’s not just the Full English Brits are attempting to perfect. Searches for ‘Sunday roast recipe’ and ‘fish and chip recipe’ have both increased by 21% and 24% in April, May and June respectively. This suggests that Britons have been looking to improve their cooking skills as restaurants and cafes have been closed.
